The Key

Mark 6:3: Is this not the Carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here among us? And they took offense at Him and were hurt (that is, they disapproved of Him and it hindered them from acknowledging His authority) and they were caused to stumble and fall. (AMP)

We were on our way back to the hotel room after a long day at a conference. Our roommate scurried down the hall, way ahead of the rest of us. “Hadn’t we better catch up to her?” I asked? “What for?” replied my friend. “She knows where we are going, but I’m the one with the key!”

What rooms of our lives have we been trying to enter without the Key? Have we been trusting Jesus with every area of our life or are we disbelieving and running way ahead, out of breath, out of energy, and drained of human strength? Do we want to spend our lives waiting in the hall?

We all like to think that we have the key to life. In our hearts, we may know it is Jesus, but too often our feet beg to differ. We run ahead of the Key Holder because we don’t believe that He is who He says He is or we don’t believe that He will do what He says He can do. We keep trying to break down doors that will only open when we let Him be the Key.

Prayer: Lord, we admit that our feet are sore, our bodies tired. Our plans have come to nothing. We have stumbled and fallen and we are stuck in the hallways of our lives. Please be our Key. Help us see you for who you really are. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
